Breaking Through the Transition Barrier

God’s need for my presence became paramount in my daily schedule. My priorities for prayer time shifted from asking to praising, from requesting to worshiping the God who loves us. However, these noble priorities were about to be thoroughly tested. Apparently, God wanted to see how determined I was to rebuild my schedule according to his needs, his desires, his expectations, and his joy.

From 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. seemed to be the best time of my day for a private session with the Lord. Our guest bedroom became my place for meeting with God. But here’s what happened. …

A Prayer Guide

Please notice the prayer guide below.  Use it as a tool to help you develop a prayer life.  This pie graph stresses the importance of beginning our communion time with worship, praise and thanksgiving.  Communion prepares us for making requests.  We don’t leave the prayer list out; we just keep  it in its place.

You Can Do It

  1. You can be a person God depends on.
  2. You can make requests according to God’s perfect will and in the greatest power.
  3. You can serve as God’s partner in accomplishing divine work.
  4. You can pray more effectively by speaking to God from your human mind and your human spirit.

Before All Else Fails

Famous last words: “After all else fails, read the instructions.”

God suggests something much better: “Before all else fails, praise.” That’s right, praise for God acts as a preventative for so many human ills.  After all, doesn’t the Lord’s Book of Instruction command us to be constantly praising him?  We praise him for who he is, what he like and for all he does.  This praise for God releases his power against everything that threatens us and those who love us.  The divine power overwhelms many of our enemies before they can lift their hand to strike us. …

Unending Reasons for Encouragement

Mountainous waves crashed down upon the vessel carrying the Apostle Paul to Rome.  Walls of green Mediterranean water swept the tiny craft from stem to stern.  The little ship shuddered and vibrated as hurricane force wind and furious waves pounded its decks and sides.

Reasons for discouragement unrelentingly filled the thoughts of both passengers and crew.  Everyone gave up hope of being saved. …

Overcoming Fear of Precariousness

A nation of ex-slaves defiantly marched out of Egyptian control.  The entire Hebrew nation looked forward to entering the land promised to their forefathers.  But the Lord told the Israelites to turn back and encamp near the Red Sea.

This order appeared unreasonable.  Why turn back toward Egypt?  The Promised Land beckoned, so why not continue marching toward Palestine?

God continued speaking to Moses.  “Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are wandering…in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.’”  God baited Pharaoh; he wanted Pharaoh pursuing the Israelites! …

God’s Unbroken Concentration

God can’t take his eyes off you.

Have you ever been so physically ill that you couldn’t focus attention on the Lord?  Has depression, fear or worry ever gripped you so tightly that you couldn’t think about the Lord?  Sometimes life becomes so difficult that we are unable to meditate on the Lord even if we wish to.  Then we feel guilty for not directing our thoughts toward God.

Well, you have nothing to worry about!  Even when you are unable to concentrate on God, he continues directing his attention toward you.  Job 36:7 promises that God “does not take his eyes off the righteous,”  Psalm 34:15. promises that “the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry.”

God constantly thinks of us whether or not we constantly think of him.  You truly are God’s treasured possession.  He loves you so much that he just can’t take his eyes off you.

The next time you feel unworthy of God’s unswerving attention, look up and quote a portion of Genesis 16:13.  This scripture portion says, “You are the God who sees me.

Scriptures referred to: Job 36:7; Psalm 34:15; Genesis 16:13.

Verses that Vivify from the Book of Isaiah

Here are some quotes from the book of Isaiah that will prove a blessing to all of us. We call them Verses that Vivify because that is exactly what God’s Word does in us—it strengthens us!

Isaiah 25:1 Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.

Isaiah 25:4 You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.

Isaiah 25:8 The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces

Isaiah 25:9 Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

Isaiah 26:4 Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal.

Isaiah 26:8 Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.

Isaiah 26:9 My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.

Isaiah 26:12 Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.

Isaiah 28:6 He will be…a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.

God’s Wisdom, Understanding & Knowledge Possessing You

“By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; by his knowledge the deeps were divided,” Proverbs 3:19-20.

Since God’s wisdom, knowledge and understanding made everything, shouldn’t we humans seek to be possessed by divine wisdom, knowledge and understanding?  How blessed our relationships with other humans would be!  How much better we would do on the job!  How much more love and joy would fill our hearts!  Yes, when God’s thoughts control our minds, words and behavior, his blessings rest upon everything we are and everything we do!

There’s a book in the Bible called Proverbs.  As we read this book again and again, it gains control over us.  It begins influencing our thoughts, beliefs and words.  Godly wisdom, understanding and knowledge flow from Proverbs into our emotions and thoughts.  God’s way of living becomes our way of living.  God’s way of treating people becomes our way of treating them.  God’s beliefs become our beliefs.

Why not try reading Proverbs?  There are thirty-one chapters in the book.  Try reading a chapter a day according to the calendar date.  In this way, you will read Proverbs through each month.  Think of that!  For just a few minutes  a day you can read Proverbs through twelve times a year.

Then, Godly wisdom, understanding and knowledge will possess you.  You will enjoy increased harmony in your relationships with people. More and more divine happiness will fill your heart.

Be greatly  encouraged,

Pastor James Fields
