When You Don’t Want To Be Where You Are

Trust wordJoseph definitely did not want to be where he was. At best, an ancient Egyptian prison offered none of the comforts of home. Excessive heat, rodents, insects, and grumpy prisoners made life less than enjoyable. Joseph’s memories of past pleasantness occasionally danced around in his meditation. Life felt like an endurance contest. …

Keeping Our Feelings Sweet

Tell God how you feelAs Jesus traveled toward Jerusalem, he sent messengers ahead of him to make arrangements for lodging. One day a group of these messengers returned to Jesus and reported that a certain Samaritan village refused to receive him. Immediately James and John angrily asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire upon this village?” Without a moment’s hesitation, Jesus rebuked them. To his rebuke he added these words: “You don’t realize what your hearts are like.”

Talk Yourself Into Trying

leap of faith

We humans are so prone to talking ourselves out of trying new things, difficult assignments or the apparently impossible. For example, God miraculously freed the Israeli slaves from Egyptian bondage and brought them out from Egypt through a miraculous crossing of the Red Sea. …

Strict Training

Training"Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." 1 Corinthians 9:25

Be Strong and Wait for the Lord

Hope

The apostle Paul was not a super human, but a regular human clothed in weaknesses and limitations like all the rest of us.  On one occasion he pleaded with God to remove an impairment that afflicted him.  God responded to Paul’s plea by pointing out, “My power is made perfect in weakness,” 2 Corinthians 12:9.  We should regard those impairments that God doesn’t take away by his power as friends not enemies.  Every impairment actually prepares us to experience God’s power.  Isn’t that what God said to Paul?  Dear friends, be encouraged to keep putting one foot in front of another when things in life don’t go according to your plans or your wishes.  God designed you to WIN even in the midst of what appears lost.  Since Divine energy works in our favor, we accept Psalm 27:14 as our motto: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Success and Blessing

man holding bible“Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge,” Proverbs 23:12.
In Webster’s 1828 Dictionary the word “apply” is defined as:

  1. to use or employ for a specific purpose.”
  2. “to fix the mind; to engage or employ with attention.”
  3.  to give the chief part of time to an endeavor.”

So, Proverbs 23:12 urges us to not waste our emotional and mental energy on hours and hours of television or entertainment, but to use our mind-time for useful purposes.  Give our meditation to instruction contained in Scripture and the Words of knowledge God’s Spirit placed in those who wrote Scripture.  As God’s Words of knowledge fill our ears and hearts, we walk in his ways of success and blessing!

First and Greatest Commandment

maarriageSince review is the price of knowledge we should often remind ourselves of the first and greatest commandment in the Bible. When someone asked Jesus to designate the most important commandment in the Bible, our Lord immediately quoted Deuteronomy 6:5, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Then our Lord unhesitatingly declared that this is the first and greatest commandment. Let’s often remind ourselves that this commandment states the goal of keeping all commandments found in Scripture. Therefore, we hate every impediment to loving Father, Son and Holy Spirit more. We shun everything that diminishes our affection for the Lord.   Living with the first and greatest commandment in mind makes us more than conquerors through him who loved us and gave himself for us!
