Several years ago I planted a hibiscus in our flower bed. With frequent watering and occasional fertilizing the plant grew larger and larger and produced beautiful showy flowers. My heart often sings to the Creator whose genius designed such beauty!
But one day I noticed holes in almost every hibiscus leaf. The plant looked sick. I took an infected leaf to a nearby nursery. The man helped me determine that a caterpillar was eating our beautiful plant. He recommended that I spray with a systemic poison. He said, “The plant absorbs the poison, the caterpillar takes a bite of the plant, becomes sick, falls and dies.”
I proceeded to follow the instructions and guess what? My plant is doing great. I sent a bunch of caterpillars to caterpillar heaven.
You know, there’s a lesson here for you and me. Sin can’t dwell in God’s presence. His presence makes sin sick. “With (God) the wicked cannot dwell,” Psalm 5:4. Sin flees from the Lord, the Holy One. God isn’t merely clothed in holiness. Sin wildly runs from his presence.
As humans absorb God’s likeness, the sin that so easily attached itself to us becomes sick of us. The purity of Jesus that fills us repels the impurity that surrounds us. Sin cringes in terror as it encounters the righteousness of Jesus in all of us. Finally, sinful habits and sinful ways, sinful thoughts and sinful desires fall off of us and die.
Staying full of God makes us repulsive to sin.
Heavenly Father cannot grow tired of His commitment to us.
God’s promises enable us to accurately predict our future. All other thoughts regarding tomorrow originate in the human mind and are unverified speculation; mere guesses.
We praise the One who constantly seeks improvement in our relationship.
A beautiful devotion!
