The word “vivify” means “to endow with life or renewed life; to impart vitality.” Well, that definition describes the effect of God’s Word on people who read it and trust the God who gave it!
Reading scripture isn’t always exciting. For example, the long lists of genealogies in the first eight or nine chapters of 1 Chronicles can be rather unedifying. However, we must never allow the less than interesting portions of scripture to discourage our reading the bible. As we faithfully endure the uninteresting verses we will reach the verses that truly vivify.
Also, hearing the Word taught or preached can often renew our interest in the Scriptures. When the people in the city of Berea, Greece heard the Apostle Paul’s preaching about Jesus they “examined the scripture every day” and many of them accepted Jesus as their savior. So, let’s examine the scripture every day by reading it.
Always recall Deuteronomy 32:46 and 47. They will encourage you to read this life giving book! “Take to heart all the words [of scripture]…obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you-they are your life.”
May the Lord richly bless your time in his Word!
