God’s people guessed they knew they enemy’s thoughts. They assumed the enemy regarded them as mere helpless grasshoppers. They substituted a guess for knowledge. They accepted their guess as accurate information. Consequently, guesses led them completely astray from reality. Joshua chapter two records how the enemy actually felt. They knew the Lord had given the land to the Jews. A fear of the Israelis terrified the Canaanites. The courage of all who opposed Israel melted away. So, you see, God’s people ruined themselves by guessing they could read other people’s feelings and thoughts.
It’s the same today. We rupture healthy relationships by conjecturing about other people’s thoughts and feelings toward us.
